About Literature Decoded

A magazine of published studies, re-set so that anyone can read them on any screen.

Literature Decoded gathers open-access research from many journals into one place and re-sets each paper as a living article: readable typography on a phone or a desktop, light and dark reading, the authors’ abstract, full text, tables, figures and references, and a clear line back to the journal that published it.

This first phase publishes living reprints: 40 studies from 30 journals in orthopaedic and musculoskeletal surgery, sports medicine and perioperative care, published 2022–2026 and licensed CC BY or CC BY-SA. Nothing is rewritten. The authors, the journal and the licence are named on every page, and every page links to the journal’s version of record, which remains the version to cite.

What a living reprint is not

  • It is not a new publication, a preprint or a peer review. Literature Decoded is not the publisher of record of any article it reprints.
  • It is not endorsed by the authors or the journal unless an author has claimed it.
  • It is not medical advice.

How the pages are made

Articles come from the open-access subset of PubMed Central: its machine-readable full text (JATS XML) and the original figure files. A generator converts each article into the living-article data format and renders it with the Research Assistant living-article renderer. Each page lists exactly what was changed (re-typesetting, figure re-encoding, simplified mathematical notation, supplementary files left with the journal).

What comes next

Later phases will add original articles deposited in an open repository with their own DOIs, and open review. Until then the site has no accounts, no submissions and no tracking.

Authors

If you wrote one of these papers you can claim the reprint (to correct details or add a plain-language summary) or ask for it to be taken down. Both are free and need no reason.
